What do I reach for when a fall outfit feels like it is missing something? Usually, it is a jacket. Even a simple outfit can look much more put together once you add the right layer.

Fall is one of my favorite seasons for getting dressed because jackets actually become part of the outfit instead of something you throw on only because it is cold. A good shape, color, or texture can change the whole look.

I was looking through the jacket selection at Savannahs, and there are quite a few styles I would keep in rotation this season. From a relaxed cotton jacket to a polished wool style, these are the pieces I would use when I want an outfit to look finished without spending too much time on it.

The Jackets I Would Keep on Repeat

Below are the jacket styles I would keep on repeating this fall. Each one has its own shape, color, and feel, which makes it easy to create different outfits without having to change everything else. These are the pieces I would reach for when a simple fall look needs an extra layer or a little more style.

1. The Row Baeza Beige Cotton Jacket

A beige jacket is one of those pieces I find easy to wear again and again. The Baeza from The Row has a structured cotton design with a boxy shape, collared neckline, side welt pockets, and a concealed front closure. It falls around the hip, which makes the shape easy to work with.

I would style this with straight-leg jeans, a simple knit top, and loafers for an everyday fall outfit. The sandy beige color also works nicely with darker fall shades like brown, burgundy, navy, and black. If I wanted something more relaxed, I would wear it open over a T-shirt with wide-leg trousers.

2. Alaïa Black Bomber Plie Jacket

The bomber jacket is a fall staple for a reason. This black version from Alaïa has a rounded, cropped shape with raglan sleeves, a round collar, and gold hardware. It is made from lightweight nylon with polyester padding, so it has a different feel from a traditional heavy jacket.

For me, the cropped shape is what makes this one interesting. I would pair it with high-waisted jeans or tailored trousers so the proportions stay balanced. Add ankle boots and a small shoulder bag, and the outfit is ready for dinner or a casual night out.

3. Alaïa Ivory Peplum Jacket

This is the jacket I would choose when I want a little more shape. The ivory Alaïa style is made from shearling and has a cinched fit, round collar, ruffle hem, and gold zip. The fitted waist gives it a more defined look than a classic straight jacket.

I would keep everything underneath fairly simple. Black trousers, slim jeans, or a fitted knit dress would let the peplum shape stand out without making the outfit feel too busy. The ivory shade also makes it a nice change from the usual black and brown fall layers.

4. Chloé Cropped Blouson Leather Jacket

A leather jacket can instantly make a basic outfit feel more styled, and this Chloé version has a softer take on the usual biker look. It is made from black nappa leather and has a collarless cropped shape, three-quarter puff sleeves, and leather-covered buttons.

I would wear this with relaxed denim and a simple top for daytime. For evening, I would switch the jeans for a long skirt or tailored pants. The puff sleeves add enough detail that I would not add too many statement accessories.

5. Givenchy Back Details Denim Jacket

Denim jackets are easy to wear, but small details can make one feel less basic. This Givenchy style comes in a medium blue wash with a scalloped detail across the back and a small embroidered GIVENCHY signature on the waistband. It is made from pure cotton.

This is the kind of jacket I would throw over almost anything. Try it with a knit dress and boots, or keep it casual with a white tee, black trousers, and sneakers. I especially like the back detail because it gives the jacket something interesting without changing its easy, everyday feel.

6. Chloé Tender Pink Jacket

Who says fall jackets have to be dark? This light pink Chloé jacket gives the usual autumn wardrobe a softer touch. It is made from cotton canvas and features a gathered high neck, puff sleeves, large flap pockets, horn buttons, and a small gold Chloé logo detail.

I would wear this with cream jeans, dark denim, or even a simple black skirt. The pink color is soft enough to wear easily, while the puff sleeves and large pockets give it some personality. It is also a nice option for those early fall days when you want a jacket that feels lighter.

7. Chloé Iconic Navy Wool Jacket

For a more polished fall look, I would turn to this navy wool jacket from Chloé. It is made from soft wool with gathered shoulders, welt pockets, a rear martingale belt, and engraved horn buttons. The fabric is a blend of 80% wool and 20% polyamide.

Navy is one of those colors that gives you plenty of room to style. I would wear this over a fine knit with tailored trousers for work, or with jeans and loafers for something more relaxed. The belt at the back also gives the jacket a little more shape, which keeps the classic design from feeling plain.

Why Jackets Make Fall Dressing Easier

I think jackets are one of the easiest ways to make a fall outfit feel more complete. You can start with simple jeans and a knit top, add a jacket, and the whole look can feel more put together. Having a few different styles in your wardrobe also gives you more ways to wear the same basics.

That is why I see jackets as my fall cheat code. I do not have to rethink my entire outfit every time I want to look a little more dressed up. I can keep the rest simple and let the right jacket bring everything together, whether I am heading out for the day, going to work, or meeting friends for dinner.
